Becoming one of the most widely recognized and respected snowboard brands doesn't happen overnight. For Jake Burton Carpenter, founder of Burton snowboards, it all started in 1977 building prototype boards out of a barn in Vermont. Jake’s entrepreneurial vision pictured ‘snurfing’, riding a stand-up sled, evolving into snowboarding on a global level.

Snowboarders were not allowed at ski resorts at this time and the activity of snowboarding remained exclusive until the mid 1980s when snowboardings popularity ignited. In 1985 Burton hosted the U.S. Open Snowboarding Championships at Stratton Mountain which helped to legitimize the sport. Jake utilized Burton to showcase snowboarding in a favorable light and pushed resorts to accept the new breed.

Burton supports generations of snowboard talent from Olympic gold medalists to backcountry phenoms. And in return they receive extensive rider feedback to improve their product for next season. Burton’s manufacturing process is also constantly changing for the better. Burton continues to lead the charge on mindful manufacturing and social responsibility becoming the first snowboard company to attain a B Corp certification; further proof that Burton is focused on the bigger picture.
